It all started very early, my mother says I was drawing when I was three, and that by age five I had already won my first Art Competition. But I turned out to be a filmmaker and it was through drawing and sketching my ideas on paper that I conceptualized my film projects.
Then in 1988, wanting to complement my film work, I started to paint on the side.
But it’s only been since 2015, when I retired from filmmaking and teaching that I became a full-timer.
What follows are some of the stages, trial and errors and experiments along the way.
the cars
The ’50s and early ’60s cars that I grew up with were really weird looking machines! I needed to paint them!
They are large pieces painted on prepared and gessoed wood panel with the shape of the car cut out using the same formulas and materials as those used by the early Renaissance painters.
They just float in space without any reference to a ground, back or foreground.

some still life
This genre has always been useful to the painter as a means to learn and experiment with his or her craft. In my work I have gone from traditional towards more experimental realism.

portrait and figure
More than anything, all these pieces represent the learning process in trying to paint the human face and figure… A lot of fun with wife Patricia as the ceramist and other models and friends!
